Living Room

Living room interior design in Raipur & Bhopal

The living room is where a home introduces itself — to guests at Diwali, to relatives who stay for a week, and to the family on an ordinary weeknight. We design living and dining spaces that can host a crowd and still feel calm when it is just you and a cup of chai.

Living room with glass-railed staircase, textured feature wall and plum armchairs

Overview

A room for guests, for family and for doing nothing at all

Indian living rooms carry an unusual double load. They have to receive guests with some formality — seating for eight or ten, a place to offer tea and sweets, perhaps a view of the mandir — and they are also where the family watches cricket, the children do homework on the floor and an afternoon nap happens on the sofa. Designing for only one of those uses is the most common mistake we see.

We begin with the plan: where people enter, where the light comes from, where the television can sit without afternoon glare, and how the dining table relates to the kitchen. Seating is arranged for conversation first and screens second. Storage is built in so that remotes, chargers, newspapers and children’s things disappear, and so the TV wall does not become a wall of open shelves gathering dust.

Then come the layers that make the room feel finished: a ceiling that defines the seating and dining zones, lighting you can dim for the evening, a material or texture that gives the room a focal point, and curtains and rugs that soften the acoustics of hard tiled floors. In a double-height space, such as the one pictured, proportion and a few large gestures matter more than lots of small objects.

What is included

What a living room project covers

We design the living and dining spaces together so they read as one room, even when they are used differently.

  • Layout & seating plan

Furniture arranged for conversation, circulation and TV viewing without glare.

  • TV & media wall

Concealed wiring, storage for devices and a backdrop that is more than a slab of laminate.

  • Feature walls & panelling

Veneer, fluted, stone or textured finishes used sparingly as a focal point.

  • False ceiling & lighting

Cove, downlights and pendants that separate zones and dim for the evening.

  • Crockery & display units

Glass-fronted storage for good china and a place for family pieces.

  • Sofa & seating design

Custom or sourced seating sized to the room, in fabrics that survive daily use.

  • Curtains, rugs & soft furnishings

Layered window treatments and rugs that warm hard floors and quieten the room.

  • Mandir or puja unit

A dignified, well-lit place for prayer where the plan and Vastu allow.

  • Art & styling

Art placement, plants and accessories chosen to finish the room, not fill it.

Materials & finishes

Finishes for walls, units and seating

Living rooms are where people tend to over-decorate. A short palette of good materials usually does more than many feature finishes.

Indicative cost — 2026

What a living room typically costs

Budgets vary most with the TV wall, the ceiling and whether seating is custom-made. Ranges below are for central India in 2026, design plus execution.

Typical range, not a quote. Television, AV equipment, air-conditioning and GST are extra. Loose furniture can be custom-made, sourced or reused, which changes the total considerably. A firm quotation follows the detailed design.

Raipur & Bhopal

Living rooms for heat, dust and big gatherings

In Raipur and Bhopal, living rooms often face the street and take the brunt of dust and afternoon sun. We favour closed storage over open shelves, finishes that wipe clean, and lined curtains or sheers that cut glare without making the room dark. Veneers and fabrics near large windows are chosen with UV fading in mind.

Festivals and family functions mean the room must stretch: nesting stools, a diwan or a long bench that seats three, and dining tables that extend. Ceiling fans remain essential for much of the year, so we plan their positions alongside the false ceiling and lighting. Our room planner is a handy way to test a furniture layout before we meet.

FAQ

Living Room: common questions

How much does a living room interior cost?
In 2026 a complete 300 sq ft living and dining room in Raipur or Bhopal — TV wall, feature panelling, ceiling, lighting, paint, sofa, dining set, curtains and décor — typically costs ₹2.4–6.1 lakh in Essential to Premium finishes (₹6.9–10.9 lakh in Luxury), before GST. Custom sofas and stone cladding push it higher.
Where should the TV go?
On a wall that does not face a window, at a height where the centre of the screen is roughly at seated eye level, and at a distance of about one and a half to two and a half times the screen size. We check glare at the time of day you usually watch.
Is a false ceiling necessary in a living room?
Not always. It is useful to hide wiring, add cove lighting and define zones in an open plan. In rooms with low ceilings we often prefer a simple perimeter band or no false ceiling at all. See our false ceiling service.
Can you include a mandir in the living room?
Yes. Many homes place a puja unit in the living or dining area. We design it with good lighting, closed storage for puja items and, where the family wishes, a Vastu-appropriate position.
Can we keep our existing sofa?
Usually. A good sofa can be re-upholstered to suit the new palette, which often costs less than a new one and saves a long-lead item.
What makes a living room feel bigger?
Fewer, larger pieces of furniture, a consistent floor finish, light walls, furniture raised on legs, mirrors opposite windows and storage built into walls rather than standing in front of them.
