How to make a mood board

Five steps to a board a designer can actually use

    01

Start with one room and one feeling

Name the board after the room and a mood — “Bedroom, calm and warm” is far more useful than “Ideas”.

    02

Pick 4–8 images you react to

Choose from the gallery, then look for what they share: light, palette, texture or the amount of storage.

    03

    Add real materials

Put the floor, the main shutter finish and the counter or headboard fabric on the board. Materials keep a board honest.

    04

    Limit the palette

Three to five colours: a base, a secondary and one or two accents. Add the wall colour you are considering.

    05

    Write down what matters

Short notes — “needs lots of closed storage”, “no glossy finishes” — capture what pictures cannot.

A good board is a decision tool, not a collage. When yours feels right, bring it to a consultation — together with a budget estimate it turns a feeling into a brief. See how that brief becomes a home in our portfolio.

    FAQ

    Frequently asked questions

Is the mood board maker free?
Yes. There is no sign-up: your boards are saved in this browser on this device, and you can download a PNG or share the list on WhatsApp at any time.
    Where are my boards stored?
In your browser’s local storage on this device only — nothing is uploaded until you choose to send it. Clearing your browser data removes them, so download a PNG of anything you want to keep. See them all in My boards.
Can I add my own photos?
Not yet — the maker uses images from our design gallery and material library, plus anything you have saved. Share your own photos with us on WhatsApp alongside the board.
How many items should a mood board have?
Usually 6–12 things in total: a handful of images, 2–4 materials, 3–5 colours and a few notes. More than that and the board stops saying anything clear.
